We’re sorry in advance if this is the riddle that sends you over the edge after a long day.
This little anecdote comes courtesy of the folks over at Ted-ed… and we’re not going to lie, we had to check for the answer.
The riddle starts by explaining that you’ve been kidnapped by aliens (standard), and that in a test to prove you’re intelligent and deserve not to be eaten, you have to guess what colour hat you’re wearing.
There’s also one slight little hiccup.
Nine other people have also been kidnapped and you’ve been placed in height order to go from the tallest at the back to the smallest at the front.
Hats are then placed on everyone’s head – either in ‘black’ or ‘white’.
Your entire team can only make one error or you will all be eaten, but you can’t touch the hats, turn around or communicate by any means other than to say your hat colour directly to the aliens.
You’re given a few moments to come up with a plan…
If you didn’t work it out, thankfully there’s a video willing to do the hard work for you.

Which might just be safer anyway – nobody wants to be eaten by aliens.
