There’s a charity shop crawl happening in Dublin this weekend and it sounds class

There are plenty of not ideal scenarios that come with being an adult.

One of those scenarios is taxes.

Another one is the Dublin rental market.

And another one is trying to make new friends.

Because honestly like, how else are people supposed to meet each other in a situation that doesn’t involve being drunk in a club or a house party chatting crap to a few lads you’re never going to speak to again?

It’s tough out there.

But there’s a charity shop event happening this weekend that might make the whole process of meeting new people a little bit easier.

And there’ll be nice, sustainable clothes around too so, you know, everybody wins.

Dublin’s first charity shop crawl is happening on Sunday December 2 to allow like-minded thrifty people to get together, wander around some shops, and pick up a few vintage bargains.

Hosted by Geraldine Carton and Taz Kelleher of the Sustainable Fashion Dublin Collective, the crawl promises to bring its attendees to a few of the city’s hidden charity gems, offering a look at some behind-the-scenes stock, and providing a bespoke map of all the unreal charity shops in the area.

The event will be rounded off with a cocktail reception in WigWam where people can show off whatever it is they bought and just have a bit of a nice time, really.

Carton says that despite the fact that technology has made people more connected, a lot of us are still feeling the strain when it comes to loneliness.

“Ask anyone nowadays how they make friends as an adult, and they’re likely to start blabbing about how difficult it is to do,” she says.

“This is certainly how Taz and I felt, anyway, and after spending an evening complaining about this modern scourge, we decided to do actually something to flip the switch and combat this problem.”

Carton says she and Kelleher wanted to create the right tone for people to get together and have a bit of fun.

“This is as much about the laughs and chats as it is about the thrifty fashion-finding,” she says.

“So we’ll be hosting a round of drinks in a nearby bar to wind down at the end of it all. What’s more, we’re keeping groups small, which means it’s an ideal thing to do by yourself as you’ll have no trouble getting to know everyone there.

The charity shop crawl starts outside Rathmines library at 2pm this Sunday, December 2 and ends on Capel St.

You can pick up a ticket for €11 here.
