Looking for a new job is hard enough without having to question each and every thing you've stuck up on your C.V.
It is always a good idea to get someone else to check over your resume before you send it in, the folks at Pay Scale have crunched the numbers, and found that the following items on your CV might not only cause you to get paid less if you do land the job, but might harm your chances of actually getting the job in the first place.
At the very top of the list is "Filing", which the data shows could lead to as much as a 15.4% decrease in potential wages if the employer spots in on your CV.
The rest of the harmful to your hiring skills are, in order of decreasing pay-scale damage:
2. Property management3. Data entry4. Bookkeeping5. AS/4006. Call centre7. Help desk/help support8. Collections9. Intuit QuickBooks10. Delphi11. Packaging12. Computer hardware technician13. Plumbing14. Administration15. Pricing16. System repair17. Shipping18. Document preparation19. Customer service20. Dreamweaver21. Online research22. Paying invoices23. Phone support24. Wordpress25. Typing
Some of these make sense - if you need to be calling attention to the fact that you can type, then that is a bit of a red flag - but seriously... Dreamweaver?
Somebody out there has Dreamweaving as a skill on their CV? Only in the event that you might be getting a job in a Dreamweaving manufacturer would that be pertinent, and yet somehow it is still less damaging on your CV than putting down "Phone Support"?
(someone whispers 'Adobe Dreamweaver' into our ear)
Oh.
Regardless, if you have any of the above on your CV and you're having a tough time finding a new job, it might be time to do some judicious editing.
