These are the most expensive places to die in Ireland

Very morbid, we know.

Laura Holland

This is very morbid but it’s a fact of life.

Turns out the cost of dying in Ireland is pretty pricey and it varies between the counties. The average cost is €4,000 but can increase by a few thousand depending where in the country you live.

If you had to guess where the most expensive place to have a funeral is you would think it’s Dublin, given it’s top for most other prices. But surprisingly it’s not top of the list for the cost of an average funeral.

Co. Tipperary is the nation’s most expensive place.

According to JOE.ie, a survey commissioned by An Post Insurance has found that the standard cost of a funeral there is €6,310.

Next on the list were Sligo and Clare where funerals cost approximately €4,062.

The cheapest county was found to be Wexford, where it will cost you €3,408 for a standard funeral.

However when you take the burial site alone, Dublin does cost a lot more than the countries average with a plot in Deansgrange cemetery costing you €32,000.
