This Is How You Can Stop Creepily Accurate Ads Appearing In Your Instagram Feed

FINALLY

Ellen Tannam

If you’re a regular user of Instagram, chances are you’ve noticed (and been annoyed by) the weirdly targeted advertisements you’ve been seeing in your feed.

For example, ever notice how if you search for something online, you often see adverts in your IG feed that match up in a creepy way to your internet history?

Well, now there’s a way to stop this, according to TechInsider.

The answer lies with Facebook. If you’re logged into Facebook on any computer it has the ability to track what you’re doing online even when you’re not actively using it.

Facebook is also the owner of Instagram so the companies pool their data sources to target advertising at all of us that little bit more efficiently.

These ads are called ‘online interest based ads’, and make sure that the adverts we see are more targeted towards us as individuals.

But you can opt out of interest-based advertising very easily just by visiting your ad settings Facebook page.

Within this page, you click Choose Setting underneath Ads Based On My Use Of Websites And Apps.

If you turn this setting off, those weird targeted ads will stop. However, it doesn’t mean you’ll stop seeing advertisements, but they will definitely be a lot less creepily related to your browser history.
