Welcome to The Bride Files - covering all things related to weddings as Laura prepares for her big day.
Choosing an engagement ring is one of the most exciting and special experiences you can have. If, like me, you got proposed to with a promise ring and picked out your actual ring you know what I'm talking about.
You may have one idea of a ring that you would like but when it comes to finally picking one it could completely change. For instance, I always thought that I would like a yellow gold band but when it came to trying them on they just didn't suit me. I have a yellow tone to my skin and it didn't sit well.
Once I tried on white gold and platinum bands they suited me much better and from there I could focus on the styles that suited the shape of my fingers. It was easy once I got going but looking at all the engagement rings at the start was quite daunting. There are so many to choose from and it's something you wear every day so you need to be happy with it.
Although I now have mine I'm still very interested in what type of rings other brides have and what trends there are out there. Last week, I spoke with Brereton's Jewellers about the average cost of an engagement ring in Ireland and this week I'm dealing with the most popular style.
It doesn't take into consideration the size or value but the design. They revealed that it's the halo ring that is the most popular. In case you're not aufait with ring terminology it's basically a central diamond with a circle of smaller diamonds around it.
The band can differ but once there are diamonds around the central diamond it's considered a halo. Brereton's have given some examples of their most popular halos.
We can see why they are so popular.
