Now this is dedication...

So there’s true love, and then there’s pure dedication.

A man spent 18 months panning for gold to collect enough flakes to make an engagement ring to propose to his girlfriend.

John Greenwood, from Pertshire, Scotland decided to collect the gold to make original (and incredibly rare) Scottish gold rings so he could make the ultimate commitment to girlfriend Morag.

So what did he do when his girlfriend accepted the proposal (and ring)?

He went back to the Highland Boundary Fault with his gold pan, trowel and shovel to collect 100g more gold to make matching wedding bands.

According to The Scotsman:

“It was a labour of love,” said John, 48, from Luncarty, Perthshire. “It was an amazing feeling to put the ring on her finger. I was really overwhelmed

“They talk about gold fever. I was panning for gold in my dreams. I was driven by it. I reckon I spent 20 full days getting enough gold for the ring.

“It was a bit like climbing a mountain and getting to the top.”

Speaking about her beautiful rings, and the effort that went into making them, Morag said:

“I feel very proud of John, and very lucky. The ring is very unique and very special.”

The couple were married in Antigua last week with a small group of family and friends.
