Hilde Kate Lysiak is a nine-year-old news reporter who beat her local daily paper to the post by writing about a murder that occurred in her town of Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania.
This ambitious young girl is the editor and publisher of
Orange Street News, whose father is a former journalist for
The New York Times, giving her the journalism bug from a young age.
Lysiak beat out all the local news sources in her town by getting to the scene of the crime first, and asking the chief of police some hard questions.
The Washington Post write that Lysiak not only produces an online version of the paper, but a print version too.
She told them: “I just like letting people know all the information."
“It’s just what I really want to do. And crime is definitely my favorite.”
Our favourite part is when she was asked how she got the scoop:
“I got a good tip from a source and I was able to confirm it.”
THIS GIRL.
She sadly received a bit of criticism from adults, but she had this to say.
“If you want me to stop covering news, then you get off your computers and do something about the news. There, is that cute enough for you?”
The 9-year-old also had a fair point to make about people expecting her to do things 'a normal little girl' would do.
“People thought I should be like playing tea parties or doing something other than being at the crime scene.”
Her paper also gets a massive 18,000 hits a month.
What a professional.
