The humble selfie has blown up online over the last couple of years.
We’ve had belfies (bum selfies), group selfies, no make-up selfies, after-sex selfies… but this trend is perhaps the most bizarre we’ve seen.
You’ve heard of divorce parties… well now people have started posting divorce selfies.
These are selfies taken of a couple to celebrate their divorce coming through, and they are taking social media by storm.
This photo of an Australian couple outside their divorce court went viral because of the pretty amazing thought behind it.
Shannon Neuman uploaded the picture to Facebook and explained the reason behind their happy smiles.
She wrote: “We have respectfully, thoughtfully and honourably ended our marriage in a way that will allow us to go forward as parenting partners for our children, the perfect reason that this always WAS meant to be, so they will never have to choose.”
“They’ll never have to wonder which side of the auditorium to run to after their Christmas concert or spring play, because we’ll be sitting together. They won’t have to struggle with their own wedding planning because we’ll be sitting on the same side of the aisle – THEIR side.”
Many more couples have followed suit, celebrating their amicable divorces with cheesy grins.
Got a #divorce today. Live tweeted about it, too, @hthrhllywd. So modern. Forever wasn’t as long as we had anticipated but it was a beautiful trip we took. I think this is what unconditional love looks like. It didn’t work for us but we are still hopeless romantics and I wouldn’t change a thing. I trained him super well, but sorry ladies, he’s already taken. As for me, I’m going cat shopping. #lessonsinlove #divorceselfies #transformationtuesday #divorceselfie #happilydivorced #newnormal #ontheprowl #canwestillbefriends #idontevenlikecats A photo posted by Heather Featherweight (@heatherofsparta) on
