When it comes to starting a relationship, or going on a first date, there can be a lot of pressure to do everything right from the very start to ensure you have the best shot at being together.

This usually includes finding a common interest and basing your date around this. But a dating expert has said that there is one common mistake which people make that can ruin a relationship before it even begins.

Matchmaker Louanne Ward says that taking your date to popular places like pubs and cafes is a big no-no.

She told The Daily Star, “Location is key. No pubs and no coffee shops. If you get a second date after going for coffee with your date you are one in a million. It doesn’t normally happen.”

Her advice is to go somewhere like a fancy cocktail bar which she says allows more time to connect with someone.

She said, “I have a strict no coffee date policy unless you have done something like walk along the beach beforehand. You need to have time to connect with the other person.

“Cocktail dates are perfect because you can choose what you like together and there’s a lot of interaction when you’re choosing a cocktail. Also you order food that you share and this is really important.”

She further advises that you also avoid dates at the weekend, unless they are during the day. She says that weekend nights can make places too packed which adds a lot of pressure to the date.

Instead, she suggests to go out on a midweek date and follow it up with lunch at the weekend.
