This Was The Original Actor Tipped To Play Buddy In Elf

We just don’t know if he could’ve pulled this one off...

It might not seem like the most obvious choice, but Will Ferrell was never the actor intended to play Buddy in Elf.

In fact, according to screenwriter David Berenbaum, the story and script for the movie dates back to 1993, and was written with Jim Carrey in mind to take on the favourite elf.

It seems that Carrey decided to turn down the offer though, instead pursuing other movie offers that rolled in after ‘Ace Ventura: Pet Detective’ made him a household name.

According to The FW,the film script ‘floated around development hell’ for another 10 years before Ferrell signed on to tackle a whole new style of comedy.

It seemed Will was even able to bring some method acting to the part, having previously worked as a mall Santa Claus, dishing out from his very own throne of lies before his acting career took hold.

Despite the movie being a modern Christmas favourite, Will Ferrell reportedly turned down $29 million to star in Elf 2 in late 2013.

We bet Jim Carrey feels like a cotton headed ninny muggins for turning down the role of Buddy now.
