Tom Hardy writes heartbreaking tribute after his dog Woody dies

Rich Cooper

Losing a pet is like losing a family member. It’s never easy and it always hurts.

Tom Hardy is, like most people, a great lover of dogs. So it’s terribly sad to report that his dog Woody has died. You might remember Woody from when he came on the Legend red carpet with Hardy a couple of years ago.

Unfortunately, Woody passed away a couple of days ago following a “short 6 month battle with an aggressive polymyostisis”, according to an essay written by Hardy.

The essay, posted to the fan blog Tom Hardy Dot Org – which Hardy’s agent confirmed to BuzzFeed was written by the actor – features a lengthy account of how Tom and Woody found each other and came to be inseparable.

In the post, Tom talks about how he ran into Woody – or rather how Woody ran into him – and how he came to get his name. “He was an Angel,” Hardy writes. “And he was my best friend. We went through so much together.”

“I don’t normally speak out about family and friends but this is an unusual circumstance.

“Woody affected so many people in his own right so with great respect to his autonomy and as a familiar friendly face to many of you, it is with great great sadness a heavy heart that I inform you that after a very hard and short 6 month battle with an aggressive polymyostisis Woody passed away, two days ago.

“He was only Age 6. He was Far too young to leave us and We at home are devastated by his loss.”
