“Too Drunk To Know Where They’re Going, Or Remember Where They’ve Been” – New Channel 4 Comedy On The Irish

A new pilot about the London Irish has been picked up by Channel 4 and will be broadcast later this year. However, the content and description of the show could be deemed slightly offensive and possibly casually racist.

The description above is the official content released by the Channel 4 press department and paints the Irish in a somewhat stereotypical light. The show revolves around four Irish friends who have moved to London together.

The press releases states: “ For these four friends it's not easy navigating their way through London life, particularly when they’re too drunk to know where they’re going,” and goes on to say: “there's only one thing worse than living in London with the English – and that's living in Ireland with the Irish.”

The show has already come under fire due to a scene that was screened at the launch of Spring/Summer season which depicted one of the girls waking up beside a child and asking “We didn’t, did we?” Channel 4 has claimed there is no implication that anything happened with the child, according to the Daily Mail.

A spokesman said: “London Irish is a new comedy series based on a group of 20-something Irish friends living in London always on the lookout for ‘the craic’ that will screen on Channel 4 later in the year.”
