He’s a familiar TV3 face that has been broadcasting the news for nearly as long as the station has been in existence but it seems the lure of UK and US stations are making Alan Cantwell consider a move away from Irish audiences.
Speaking to The Independent, the 44-year-old newsman says that the move from TV3 marks the culmination of a new year’s resolution this time last year to spread his wings and not still be at the station in 12 months time.
"It's no secret – I decided that after 14 years, I felt I had achieved everything I had set out to do at TV3. I'm turning 45 in June so I felt that I could stay here for another 10 or 15 years, or I could set out and try to fulfil my potential," he said.

"I have two daughters who are still young enough if we had to move away and my wife is very supportive of me. You only get one bite at the cherry," he continued.
Having started out on radio, Alan says that he also would consider a move back to radio and says he loves its intimate nature but hasn’t ruled anything out and admits that a move stateside is probably his first choice as he spends as much time there as possible and loves the place and the people.
