The idea is to stop drunken passengers from disturbing the driver.

Most parents have an arsenal of secret weapons that they whip out when their child is having a tantrum.

It’s also true that intoxicated adults can act very much like children… so it makes sense that Uber have employed some parental tactics of their own.

They have now installed nineties favourite Bop It into the backseats of many Uber vehicles in order to distract drunken passengers so that they in turn will not distract the driver.

Speaking to The Guardian, Uber’s chief security officer Joe Sullivan explained:

“An intoxicated rider who is engaged in something interesting is less likely to be irritable and aiming aggression at the driver.”

The initiative comes after a rise in assaults on drivers, which are one of the professions main risks.

The Bop Its are currently being trialled in the North Carolina city of Charlotte and are the latest in a stream of initiatives to combat assaults on drivers.
