The rates of drink driving in Canada trebles after midnight, and while we know we shouldn’t step behind the wheel after alcohol, for some the message can be lost in the pub.
So taxi company Uber decided to offer free rides to drunk people in Toronto as part of their ‘Uber Safe’ campaign to combat the dangerous problem reaching crisis point.
Setting up a kiosk in the city last month, passers-by were able to blow into a disposable straw, press a button have their alcohol levels checked by an in-built breathalyser.
And for anyone over the limit?
The machine produced a receipt: “You drink. We Drive. Blow here for a free ride.”
Granted, it might be a marketing stunt - but when it's helping get people home safe, well it can't be all bad.
