Heartache is never easy. It can leave you questioning yourself and everything you’ve done.
But what if you’ve done the same action eight times that day? Or your normal routine that you cling to, is the same reason your partner needs to walk away?
Neil Hilborn, a College National Poetry Slam champion, prepared a piece on his relationship breakdown as a result of OCD. His humourous look on his condition is quickly highlighted in the prose:
“She said she felt safe with me. No-one would ever rob us ’cause I locked the door eighteen times.”
When the relationship starts experiencing problems, Hilborn is quick to pick up on how his partner is negatively reacting to his OCD, despite the fact she is the ‘first beautiful thing I ever stuck on’.
We’ve watched all the rom-coms, read the chick-lit and still nothing could prepare us for this closing line. We won’t ruin it for you. *Warning* If you’re feeling tender, grab the tissues now.
