WFAA-TV sports anchor Dale Hansen has become a viral sensation in the past week thanks to a two-minute commentary aired during a broadcast last Monday.

During his station’s 10pm newscast, Hansen took the opportunity to speak about Michael Sam, a former University of Missouri defensive end who came out to various national media outlets on Sunday.

His announcement came just ahead of the NFL draft for the coming season, a crucial time for rising stars in the game.

“Several NFL officials are telling Sports Illustrated it will hurt him on draft day because a gay player wouldn’t be welcome in an NFL locker room. It would be uncomfortable, because that’s a man’s world”, Hansen said.

What came next is pretty awesome, and has so far garnered over three million views on YouTube.

Hansen told Dallas News he believed viewers were expecting a different viewpoint.

“They see a big, fat old guy from Dallas, Texas, and they thought they knew what the redneck was going to say,” he said. “I guess they were wrong.”
