A video of police officers shooting a man's dog in Hawthorne, California has caused uproar online.
The Hawthorne Police Department is said to be inundated with angry emails since the video went viral yesterday evening.
Owner of the dog Leon Rosby spoke to KABC and relived his pain as he watched his dog's final moments.
The shooting occurred when police responded to an armed robbery, where a standoff ensued. Rosby was reportedly "interfering" with the operation, blaring music from his car and walking up and down with his dog.
After Rosby put his two-year-old Rottweiler Max in the car, he was approached and arrested. Max proceeded to jump out the window of the car before the police officer believed he was being threatening and shot the dog.
Neighbours, including children, witnessed the shooting.
