We love the cringe factor, the weirdo factor and the rough diamond factor but we detest the sob factor!
We wish producers would realise that hearing yet another tug on the heart-strings tale from a single mother, past-it pub singer or council estate resident is boring, predictable and actually makes us want to switch off completely.
And we’re not alone! The clever people at The Sabotage Times have summed up our feelings perfectly in a mock ‘leaked’ memo from Simon Cowell. Written by Gareth Dimelow, the mock memo pokes fun at the judges, the contestants and the way the X Factor machine is so frickin predictable! Tulisa’s blonde hair, Louis and his complete lack of insight, Nicole’s mad decision in putting Rylan through and Ella’s massive gob are all given the once over to hilarious effect. Our only issue with the memo is the sly dig at Gary Barlow’s recent misfortune which is a bit of a tacky low-blow in our opinion.
We understand that lots of the contestants have hard lives, are un-employed, struggling to pay the rent or mourning the loss of a loved one but it’s not a good enough reason to fast track someone to stardom.
We’ve compiled our top sob stories from past shows so let us know what you think? Are we being too harsh?
