WATCH: Baby Elephant Reunited with its Mother After Years Apart

This will do your heart good.

They say an elephant never forgets, but even though this youngster may never forget the painful separation from her mother – perhaps she’ll always remember the kindness of the humans who worked to bring her back too.

Elephant calf Me-Bai was sold to a tourist agency at the tender age of three, removed from the herd that included her mother.

She was too young to carry the weight and became ill. Things looked bleak for the majestic creature, until the founder of Thailand’s Elephant Nature Park (ENP), Lek Chailert, stepped in.

Securing the young elephant’s place in the park’s Pamper a Pachyderm programme, Chailert ensured that Me-Bai found in the sanctuary a new home where no one would harm her or place demands on her.

While she was being cared for, volunteers also managed to track down Me-Bai’s mother, Mae-Yui, who had also been sold to a trekking service. Chailert managed to convince Mae-Yui’s owner to release her to the sanctuary also so the pair could be reunited after three years apart.

Park representatives say they are now working to rehabilitate both mother and daughter so they can return to the wild together and live the life they were born for.
