When people found out that the sign language interpreter at Nelson Mandela’s memorial wasn’t actually signing anything, it caused outrage.
But is there a chance that the man was signing something? Talk show host Jimmy Kimmel asked a real sign language interpreter to explain what he was actually saying:

So it turns out that he was actually saying something but it didn’t make much sense!
AFP has reported that the Mandela memorial interpreter Thamsanqa Jantije has since claimed that he was experiencing a schizophrenic episode, though the South African government has admitted that he was ”not a professional sign language interpreter.”
