Christmas is an extremely emotional time of year for many. It is a time that should be enjoyed with loved ones, sharing memories while making new ones. For anyone who has lost someone special, this short film from Dubliner Dermot Malone will strike a chord.
Irish filmmaker, Dermot, has written and produced many short pieces of film in recent months. He's back with '
Runner Up', a short film that is guaranteed to make an impact and have you contacting your nearest and dearest.
Dermot told
Her.ie the inspiration for the short: "When writing, I liked the idea of a film about passing on something special this time of year and for me that's what it is about: Giving people a lift when they need it".
Ruairi O’Connor, who stars in John Butlers film ‘
Handsome Devil', plays a part in the short. Dermot also called on some favours from his family and inspiration behind the piece.
"This is a film that is based on a childhood memory when my Grandad gave me a trophy after having lost a game", he added.
"Thankfully, however, the rest of the piece is fictional and my Grandad is still alive. In fact, my grandad plays the grandad in the film".
