The world’s media has been baffled by a bizarre hoax played against a US National League football player this week.
The hoax involved the “girlfriend” of NFL player Manti Te’o dying from leukaemia, after surviving a serious car crash. But it turns out there was never a girlfriend at all.
Lennay Kekua claimed to be a Stanford graduate, but it turns out she was merely an online persona who “ingratiated herself with Notre Dame player Manti Te’o and then conspired with others to lead him to believe she had tragically died of leukaemia”.
Te’o had only ever communicated by phone and email only with his “girlfriend”. He learned that it had all been a cruel hoax at the beginning of December, but did not share the news until after Christmas as he didn’t want to interfere with his team’s big game.
The bizarre prank is a hot subject online and in social media this week so US women’s magazine Cosmopolitan decided to join in on the fun and games.
Sex position of the week?
Why, the Te’o of course.
