Chinese student Zhang Chi has muscular atrophy, a condition which weakens muscles and makes it difficult for him to walk and carry his own weight.
Zhang (19) is unable to get to class by himself and so his best friend, Xie Xu (18), has made it his responsibility to ensure Zhang attends school.
Both students live in dormitories near Daxu High School in the city of Xuzhou.
Each day, Xie carries Zhang from his room to each class and back again, according to Shanghaiist.com.
Xie also helps Zhang with daily chores such as getting meals and doing his washing.
Vice principal Guo Chunxi spoke to a local media outlet about the inspiring duo: “The story of the two students is so inspiring and touching. They aren’t family, but Xie has been doing this for three years.
“He also exerts positive influence on other students, who readily help Zhang. With their assistance, Zhang has never missed out on one single class”.
