Who Said Romance is Dead? Here’s What Most Irish People Really Want for Valentine’s Day

To be honest, this does sound pretty good...

A little bit lazy when it comes to l’amour? You’re not the only one, it seems.

According to a new survey, two-thirds of Irish people will be opting for a takeaway on the couch rather than a romantic night out this Valentine’s Day.

We’ll still be turning up the charm though, adding wine and candles to our trusty Chinese so our date feels more cosy than casual.

The nationwide survey, carried out by JUST EAT, found that Chinese takeaway is the most popular, with 42 per cent of respondents saying that Chinese is their top pick for a romantic date night in.

Survey respondents voted Brian O’Driscoll and Amy Huberman in as their favourite celeb couple, while most women would like to spend some time on the day of love with Fifty Shades of Grey Star Jamie Dornan.

As for the downsides of the romantic holiday, the majority of people acknowledged that the worst thing about Valentine’s Day is smug couples and irritating Facebook status updates – so keep the twee poems and over-the-top declarations to your private messages, please and thank you.

One third of those surveyed said that the most important characteristic in their ideal partner is a sense of humour and fun.

Whether or not they were ever on a break, Ross and Rachel topped the poll as the favourite TV couple, pipping Homer and Marge and Modern Family’s Mitchell and Cam to the post.

As for our favourite food combo? The classic curry chip.

Go forth and woo. You’re welcome.
