Whoops! Sky Ireland Issue Thousands Of Condolences To The Families Of Their Living Customers

Many Sky customers were flabbergasted last week when the company posted out thousands of letters expressing their condolences for the loss of their family members.

Unfortunately for Sky, the family members in question were still alive, kicking and even catching up on their weekly dose of X Factor.

Over 2,000 letters of condolence were posted requesting that the families pay off their loved one’s outstanding Sky debts.

The company have been issuing apologies by phone and letter and have offered those effected three months free TV after revealing that a systems error was responsible for the mishap.

According to The Irish Independent, Denis Sheehan was one of the unlucky customers to get a letter in the door, addressed to the executors of his estate.

The letter read: “We are sorry to hear of your loss and we'd like to offer our condolences to all those concerned."

The morbid letter requested that his executors pay up the €25 outstanding on his account before cancelling it.

Mr Sheehan, from Valentia Island County Kerry said that he received a telephone call from Sky apologising for the mistake.

"He offered me three months Sky TV free for the inconvenience. I'm only sorry I didn't tell him to give me six months free,” he said.

However, despite the gesture of goodwill, Mr Sheehan said that the mistake should never have been made.

"Can you imagine an older person and how they would take it? There's really no excuse for a company of that size making a mistake like that," he said.

It certainly would be a little eerie to get a letter in the door addressed to the ‘executers’ of our estate but we’re sure the three months free Sky would make up for it!
