Irish champion Katie Taylor fought her way to victory this morning in the World Championships semi-final against Jinhua Yin of China who threw in the towel on the match after round three.
Katie has now sealed herself a place in the final where she will hope to secure a fifth World Championship title.
The Bray woman had an extremely tough and nail-biting test against the Chinese boxer, who is placed fourth in the world. After three tense rounds, however, Katie was crowned winner by TKO (technical knockout), much to the relief of the large Irish support.
The Irish boxer had come into the match off the back of an extra’s day rest after she had been given a walkover in the quarter-final by Russian Sofya Ochigava. It was obvious that the unexpected recuperation time really stood to her this morning.
Having already seen off the challenges of Valeria Spicer and Mira Potkonen earlier this week, all eyes are now on the big prize for the Irish boxer as she prepares to fight for the ultimate prize in the final.
The Bray boxer will now face Azerbaijan’s Yana Allekseevana in Monday's lightweight final and is now guaranteed at least a silver medal in a match which takes place tomorrow morning just after 6am Irish time. TG4 will broadcast the finals live from Jeju.
