The dress worn by Judy Garland in The Wizard of Oz has sold for a whooping $1.56 million (€1.46m). The Bonhams auction house organized the sale, which saw 400 pieces from classic movies up for auction. The dress went to a phone bidder.

Other items on the night included a suit worn by Marilyn Monroe in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes and a golden ticket from the original Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory.
