Most Irish people know a few Irish words or sentences. Unfortunately, the majority aren’t fluent. But, as soon as you go abroad you can be guaranteed someone will want you to say a few words or speak Irish.
Usually, you can just fob them off by saying random sentences you learned in school, especially asking to go to the toilet, “An bhfuil cead agam dul go dtí an leithreas.”
One Irish woman, living in Australia, found a solution after being pestered by locals to speak Irish.
A tattoo artist shared her picture saying:
“A good friend of mine residing in Australia the last couple of years gets asked quite a lot to say something in Irish by the locals.
Not being very fluent in her native tongue this line we all know too well is always her response.”
