This moved Katya immensely and now she wants to give back, doing all she can do to stop similar attacks from happening.
She co-founded Nimb, a panic button encased in a ring that can send alerts to emergency contacts by pressing on it for three seconds.
This will send your location and a message alert to those who you have designated as your chosen contacts.
To get Nimb off the ground, Katya has set up a crowdfunding Kickstarter campaign which has already exceeded her original goal of $50,000.

Described as a "ring with a concealed button that notifies family, friends, emergency services and the Nimb community when you’re in trouble", Katya believes this technology is necessary in order to help women stay safe.
