In a chilling use of social media, a Kentucky woman has credited Facebook with saving her life after she sharing a picture of her badly beaten face and pleaded for help.

American Susann Stacy shared the shocking picture on Facebook on Monday night after she was attacked by her husband, Donnie. Stacy’s husband ripped the house telephone from the wall following the ordeal, leaving her unable to contact anyone by phone.

The gruesome image was uploaded to the woman’s Facebook page, along with the message “Help please anyone”.

A friend of Stacy’s saw the image and called the police, who quickly arrived on the scene.

Speaking to local station WKYT-TV, Leslie County Sheriff’s Deputy Sam Mullins said; “She had several lacerations to the head. They appeared to be bad but we really couldn’t tell at the time, due to her hair was matted to her, and the blood.”

Susann told police her husband had become enraged when he heard her on the phone with another man. He has already left the home by the time police arrives, but was arrested and charged with assault not long after.

Following the incident, Susann was in receipt of many negative comments online, criticising her for posting the image publicly.

On Thursday afternoon she responded, posting this message:

A statement about the events of Monday.. I posted a picture via WiFi because it was my ONLY way to seek help. I didn’t have a phone to call on… no cell service… just WiFi. I just wanted help.. to not die in a pool of my own blood in my kitchen floor. I am thankful for all the help… care… concern… and humanity shown to me. There are so many negative statements being made… along with positive ones… following the news stories. To each their own. Time to find that more better forever. Blessings.
