A woman in the UK has gotten her beloved pet cat back after a five-month disagreement with the man who believed he had rescued it.

Jessica Smith and her two young sons were devastated when their female kitten Felix disappeared from the family home in Hertfordshire last August, reports The Mirror.

They made posters and started a search but were unable to find him.

Jessica was surprised when she received a phone call just after Christmas telling her that a local vet knew where Felix was.

Felix had been taken in by a man in the area who was refusing to give her back to her original owner.

Jessica contacted the man, who told her that he couldn’t let Felix go as his daughter had fallen in love with her.

She decided to get in touch with the police. They eventually returned the cat to her last week.

“The police were waiting with her when I came home from school with the boys – they were both really excited to see her again,” Jessica said.

“She ran straight upstairs and sat in her favourite sink. She seems really happy to be home and completely fine.

“We regret the missing five months because we missed out on the whole kitten side of her. But she is still playful and racing around like a lunatic.”

The man who found her, Andrew Stoner, said he had offered to buy Jessica another cat.

“We are not horrible people – we tried to do right by the animal.”
