Domestic violence is a frightening, and sadly common thing in many relationships.
Many people who are on the receiving end of abuse in their relationships find it difficult to leave their partners, especially if their financial circumstances make it almost impossible for them to do so.
This financial obstacle traps many people in dangerous situations.
One Seattle woman, Heather Dodson was assaulted by her ex-boyfriend and has set up a fundraising page to aid her recovery. (WARNING - graphic images)
Her injuries were horrific and included a broken eye socket, a broken nose, a chipped tooth and severe bruising.
According to the fundraising page, she does not have the right health insurance to cover the majority of these medical bills, so she has turned to the public for their support.
She is living in a safe place and looking forward to restarting her life again.
Use of crowdfunding pages to aid victims of domestic violence is something that has been happening more in recent years, with other cases of funding to help injured parties get back to normal reported.
