Animal lover, Janet Veal’s body was discovered in her home several weeks after she had passed away.
The cause of the woman’s death is said to be from natural causes but police found Janet’s body “gnawed and eaten” on the floor of her kitchen in Hants, England.
During an inquest at Southampton Coronoer’s Court police explained that they received a call from a concerned neighbour who has not seen the 56-year-old since April.
After the police gainied access to the house the grim discovery was made, beside Veal’s body lay a number of dead animals, including a cat and dog.
Cats that were still alive had eaten away at the owner’s body in order to stay alive.
Coroner Keith Wiseman said, "Exactly what happened to render Mrs Veal unable to assist herself or get any kind of help is unclear.”
"This was sadly a natural death that led to very untoward consequences for Mrs Veal.”
"This was because of her inability to get any assistance for herself. She was confined in the way that she was in this property with a number of animals that had not been fed for quite a long period of time."
Wiseman added, "This too was a distressing experience because it was clear that certain parts of Mrs Veal's body were missing and had, the officer formed the view, effectively been gnawed and eaten away by the animals.”
