Dear women of the world,
Tell us the last time you looked at your reflection in the mirror and praised yourself for all of your achievements. Think back to the last time you looked at yourself, staring directly into your own eyes and said: ‘You are beautiful.’ Try to remember the last time you picked up your friend, your sister, your aunt, your female colleague or an unnamed woman when they fell and supported them during their time of need.
We live in a challenging world and sadly, this world can sometimes be a lot tougher when you inhabit a female body. Unlike the opposite sex, we have to worry about things like inequality. We have to worry about harrassment, physical and verbal abuse because of our gender and various other issues which dictate who we should be. We have to worry about continually being considered the ‘second sex’ by politicians, authorities, governments and more.
But we are strong. The struggles have shown us that in every corner of the world there are women who are brave enough to hope. Whether that hope is for freedom, for peace or for a higher position in a massive company, no matter what form that hope takes it is present and the fact that it exists is enough to change the world.
We know that being a woman can be scary. We know that there are some days when you’ll feel ugly. When you’ll feel unheard. When you feel like no one is paying attention to you. When you feel alone. But don’t lose your voice. Don’t lose the inner spark that makes you the vibrant female that you are.
We understand that there will be weeks when you’ll want to give up, months when the struggle will get too much, years when it feels as though nothing is going right. But keep your passion for life. Keep your fire. Keep your goals.
There may be struggle, there may be setbacks and there may be challenges but we know something else. We know that you are stronger than you think you are. We know you have an amazing mind, an unbreakable spirit and an intense dedication to achieving your dreams and creating a better life for yourself.
We know that you are beautiful, you are capable and you are worthy of respect. We know that when a woman puts her mind to something, anything becomes possible. We know that you are a heroine, even if the rest of the world can’t see your cape just yet.
You, dear sisters, have already achieved so much. You bring such colour to the world, such inspiration and for that we’re incredibly grateful to you. You uplift us, you make us laugh, you rally our spirits when we’re low and you encourage us to be the best version of ourselves that we can possibly be.
You are a revolution in a body that gives birth to new life (both physically and metaphorically). You are a supernova, a muse, a catalyst for change and drop-dead gorgeous.
Today make a promise to yourself that you will never give up the fight no matter how bad the struggle. Promise yourself that you will continue to support each other, inspire each other and enjoy life together. Promise that you will look after your beautiful body, your keen mind and your unshakeable spirit.
But most of all promise that you will be as proud of yourself as we are of you.
