You can rent a whole South American island on Airbnb and we’re booking our tickets already

Keeley Ryan

The wintry weather is officially starting to settle in.

As we get ready for another few months of bitterly cold, cosy jumper weather, we’ve already cast our eyes towards our next vacation.

Which is why we were particularly excited to find out that you can rent out a whole island in South America – all thanks to Airbnb.

Billed as a “true paradise on earth”, the island is located off the coast of Angra Dos Reis – around two hours from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The property is on the island of Ilha Grande, which is a 15 to 20 minute boat crossing from Portogalo main land harbour.

According to the Airbnb listing, it has six bedrooms and 12 beds, each with their own private bathroom – and is suitable for a maximum of 14 guests (we’d imagine this includes crashing on the couch).

The listing says it is a “piece of real Brazilian paradise”; a “sophisticated designer house, with exquisite interior decoration with Italian style”.

Outside, there are two wooden decks to bask in the sunshine – as well as take in the views during sunset.

Canoes and stand-up paddleboards are available to explore the surroundings, with four hammocks are hanging in the veranda for you to rest in the shade.

Meals can be enjoyed outdoor under a beautiful ipe tree or by the ocean; as well as inside the house or in the veranda overlooking the sea.

It is also a perfect base for a daily excursion to Paraty, the famous Portuguese colonial harbor used during imperial times for gold trade.

If you’re looking at making your way to Ilha Grande, it will cost you €1,173-a-night for your getaway – and the trip to get there from Angra is included.

Still, though – we can always dream.
