Your Guide To The Weekend: Five Fantastic Events Taking Place Around Ireland

It looks like our prayers for that elusive Leaving Cert weather have been answered. The sun is out and it’s time to start making the most of our summer weekends. 

Here’s our pick of the best events happening around the Emerald Isle this weekend. What will you be going to?

1. Doolin Folk Festival, Co. Clare

What: The gorgeous coastal Clare town is playing host to some of the most talented names in Irish music this weekend for its annual folk festival. Sharon Shannon, Mick Flannery and Her.ie favourite WeBanjo3 (check out their single ‘The Fox’ below) will all be performing throughout the weekend. Tickets are available here.

2. SOAK at the Róisín Dubh, Galway

What: The super talented 17 year old singer songwriter from Derry will be taking to the stage in the Roisin Dubh this Friday for what promises to be a fantastic gig. Her single ‘Sea Creatures’ was A-Listed at BBC Radio 1, and she’s been named a One To Watch for 2015 by iTunes, Spotify and the BBX Sound Poll. 3. Taste of Dublin at Iveagh Gardens

What: The food festival is celebrating its 10th year in Iveagh Gardens this year with ten Michelin chefs on board to showcase the best of the best of Irish food and produce. Head along to sample their culinary delights, pick up some cooking tips and much more. Get your tickets here.

4. Só Sligo Food and Cultural Festival

What: Sligo is also playing host to a fantastic food festival this weekend. Running alongside Yeats 2015 (the global celebration of the 150th of WB Yeats), foods from the four corners of the planet will descend on the town to showcase their work. For more details click here.

5. Hermitage Green at the Royal Theatre and Event Centre, Mayo 

Hermitage Green

What: Famous for their energetic live performances, this Irish band have been touring relentlessly since they started out in 2010. The five-piece started out as a spontaneous jam session between friends and soon developed in to a strong acoustic outfit with an original sound for which the band have credited their contrasting musical tastes. Get tickets here.
