New York tends to the city to set new trends, but we weren’t expecting this. Manhattan’s East Village is causing a stir, with the latest advertised bar planning to open causing quite a bit of controversy.
Gestations claims to be New York’s first bar for pregnant women, announcing its intention to launch with a billboard ad in Times Square. The ad features a pregnant woman in a sports bra and shorts, with a bottle of champagne being popped in front of her.
The slogan running under the bar’s address reads:
“You’re drinking for two now.”

The company behind the billboard campaign have yet to confirm whether they’ll function as an alcohol-free cocktail bar or alternative service, but have caused a major backlash online with their marketing drive.
