The Volkswagen group is set to recall 79,348 cars sold in Ireland, following news of falsifying emissions tests.
In a statement issued by the car company this evening, customers will be contacted on an individual basis about an "action plan to correct the emissions characteristics of certain diesel vehicles".
According to RTE, the recall will involve 34,387 Volkswagen passenger cars, 16,485 Audi cars, 4,365 SEAT cars, and 16,004 Skoda cars.
While it has been revealed to the public that all vehicles are "technically safe and road-worthy", the company are now set to correct the emissions process.
It is believed Volkswagen is set to set up an online service for customers to check if their car will be affected.
The company will now begin an investigation into the rigging of the emissions tests on diesel vehicles.
