Opel issue a second recall of over 8,000 Zafira B Cars

German car manufacturer Opel is recalling over 8,200 Zafira B cars for the second time for safety improvements.

RTÉ reports that the manufacturers had recalled the cars following a series of fires, but incorrect repairs of blown motor resistors and thermal motor fuses mean a second recall has been issued.

“These improper repairs, which may have been conducted without the owners’ knowledge, can lead to overheating of the system’s electrical components and the potential for a fire”.

“Resistors should never be repaired, they should only be replaced.”

Opel has announced after consultation with the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency says it has identified further remedial safety repairs of the cars to be carried out.

They will be writing to owners from August to resolve this.

The model affected is the Zafira B, built between 2005 and 2014. 240,000 cars are affected by the recall across Europe.
