New security measures will be in place for some Irish concerts

Laura Holland

Take note if you’re heading to any of the big concerts this summer.

Following the recent terrorist attacks in Manchester and London, new security measures will be in place for some Irish concerts this summer. Backpacks and large electronic devices, such as tablets, will not be permitted into the gigs.

Backpacks have already been banned from Shawn Mendes’ 3Arena concert and Guns N’ Roses at Slane with other major gigs now following suit.

Anyone with backpacks will not be allowed into Robbie Williams’ concert and the Coldplay concert at Croke Park.

According to The Independent, Peter Aiken of Aiken Promotions has said:

“We are always reviewing security.

We will not allow anyone in with backpacks. We promoted all through the Troubles in Northern Ireland so we are well aware of security arrangements at all these gigs.”

Exceptions to these bans are the bigger festivals such as Electric Picnic, Longitude and Indiependence as they have camping on site.
