A replacement for Glastonbury is coming to Ireland

This is HUGE!

This is huge!

Glastonbury is taking a break next year. So, to fill that void, the BBC has announced a huge new festival that will run in its place for one year only.

The Biggest Weekend is going to happen at the end of May next year in four different locations in the UK. The best part for us is that one of those locations is in Northern Ireland. Where specifically, we’re not sure yet.

It will also be held in Wales, England and Scotland with each country hosting their own festival for the four days from May 25th to 28th. Like Glastonbury, the festival will be extensively covered on BBC Two and BBC Four.

The BBC has stressed that this is just a one time festival with no plans for a repeat the following year.

Speaking about the festival, Bob Shennan, Director BBC Radio and Music says:

“BBC Music has a strong history of bringing the nation together for some special moments, and this is the biggest single music event ever attempted by the BBC. We will be celebrating the diversity of music from four different corners of the country, bringing the best UK music to the world and the best global music to the UK.”
