A fresh weather warning has been issued for all of Ireland as Storm Helene arrives

A fresh weather warning has been issued for all of Ireland after ex-tropical storm Helene's arrival.

Met Éireann forecasters have issued a yellow wind caution, which is due to kick in at 5am tomorrow [Wednesday, September 19]. It will end at 5pm the same day. The warning says that it will be very windy across the country from the early hours of the morning until the evening time. South to southwest winds will reach average speeds of 50 to 65 km/hr, with gusts of 90 to 110 km/hr. It will be the strongest in the southern, western and northern coastal areas.   Met Éireann have said that there is "still some uncertainty" about the evolution of the weather as the rest of the week goes on. The forecast update says:

"Present charts indicate that there will be rain in southern areas on Thursday, but cool, bright and showery elsewhere in blustery westerly winds. "[It will be cold, with] afternoon highs of just 12 to 15 degrees Celsius. Chilly but dry overnight."

It will be cool, dry and bright on Friday in many midland, eastern and southern areas. However, there will be occasional showers in the northern and western coastal areas. There will be fresh west to northwest winds with highs of 12C to 15C. Meanwhile, the weekend is set to be changeable - with Saturday being mainly dry and heavy rain forecast in the evening, possibly overnight. It will turn drier again during Sunday, although Met Éireann warn that this could change.
