5 people killed, several injured after shooting in a newsroom in the US

Five people have been killed and several injured after a shooting at a newsroom in Annapolis, Maryland.

Police said that they were responding to the scene at The Capital Gazette’s offices on around 2.40pm on Thursday afternoon.

According to the BBC, police confirmed the multiple fatalities in a news conference this afternoon – and that the suspect was now in custody.

County executive Steve Schuh said in a news conference:

“We’ve had a terrible shooting incident here this afternoon.

“There are several people who have died from this incident.”

Capital Gazette reporter Phil Davis told the Baltimore Sun that “multiple people” have been shot.

CBS News report that five other people were injured, with one of them being treated at a nearby hospital. Two other hospitals in the area told the outlet that they had not received patients.

Anne Arundel Police said that they are currently responding to the scene and that the building is currently being evacuated.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) issued a statement on Twitter confining that they were responding to an incident at the Capital Gazette.

President Trump said on social media that he had been briefed on the situation, and that his “thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families.”
