Motorists have been urged not to travel during Storm Ali today unless absolutely necessary.

AA Roadwatch said that wind blown debris is likely to be an issue on many secondary roads across the country and that certain vehicles could be “vulnerable” on the road.

The storm has claimed one life this morning and left over 140,000 homes and businesses without power.

A nationwide Status Yellow wind warning is in place until 5pm today (September 19), with a Status Orange wind warning in operation until 1pm for Connacht, Donegal, Monaghan, Cavan, Louth, Meath, Westmeath, Dublin, Kildare, Offaly, Longford, Clare and Kerry.

Trees have fallen across the country making many roads impassable, including the Claremorris area in Mayo and the N60 and the Ballinrobe Rd (R331) which are fully blocked.

There are a considerable number of trees and power lines down in Dublin, Galway, Cavan, and Kildare.

Traffic is also considerably heavy in Dublin city centre with many blockages caused by trees falling on cars .

The full list of road blockages can be found here.
