An Aer Lingus flight from Dublin to Perpignan in the south of France was diverted this afternoon after a bomb scare at Perpignan airport.

The scheduled EI510 flight, which left Dublin at 12.20pm, was diverted to Toulouse following the bomb alert at Perpignan at 1.30pm today.

The flight was diverted due to a suspect suitcase being identified in the French airport, which was left at the bottom of the control tower in close vicinity to nearby gas cylinders.

Around 500 passengers were evacuated from the terminal and a specialist bomb disposal squad arrived on site, carrying out a controlled explosion on a suspect device in a small suitcase.

The airport later reopened at 4.05pm.
