We've long hoped for the arrival of low cost flights to America on a par with those to and around Europe - and it seems we won't have to wait much longer.
The Independent is reporting this morning that Norwegian airlines has booked slots to fly from Cork airport to Boston next March - and that it will only cost $69 (€62) to travel with them on its new fleet of aircraft.
“I can promise you that you will see transatlantic flights on the 737 Max next year,” Chief Commercial Officer Thomas Ramdahl said. “And that’s when you will see the $69 fares.”

The airline says that fuel-efficient new planes will reduce the cost of transatlantic travel, which in turn will allow for the lower fares.
As it currently stands, Norwegian offers flights from London to Boston from around €157 each-way, which is still pretty good value even if that figure were to apply to the Cork flights.
Norwegian's planned US expansion has been on the cards since earlier this year when it was granted permission under the Open Skies agreement.
Indeed,
as the Telegraph reported, the non-EU Norwegian snagged that approval by launching its Irish subsidiary, Norwegian Air International Limited.
The first flights are due to take off in March 2017. Keep an eye out for the sales announcement - and then act fast to book a cheap springtime jaunt.
