“I’m finding this really painful.”

Today on ITV’s This Morning, temporary hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary broke their silence about Phillip Schofield’s bombshell interview with The Sun.

They played clips from the BBC and parts of the interview from last night.

Alison got very emotional after playing snippets from Phillip’s chat with the publication.

She said: “I’m finding this really painful.

“I loved Phillip Schofield. I still love Phillip Schofield. We’re really struggling to process everything. I don’t know what to say.

“He knows what he did was wrong, he’s admitted it, he’s said sorry. As a family, we’re all really struggling to process everything.”

Alison added that she knows what Phillip did was wrong but it doesn’t make things any easier.

She said: “I never know what to say but I remember what my mum said. My mum always said, ‘Use your bible as your Sat Nav in life’ and in the bible it says, ‘He without sin, cast the first stone.’

“I don’t want to say anything bad because obviously, I’m in conflict.”

Dermot joined in and said: “It’s very difficult for us to cover this story. He’s a friend and a colleague.”

O’Leary praised Phillip for apologising and showing “empathy” but also echoed that he was wrong and should be accountable for his actions.

Last night Phillip gave a bombshell interview with The Sun where he discussed the affair with younger ITV colleague and admitted that he was wrong.

He said he did not groom the man from a young age but is “utterly ashamed”.

He apologised to co-host and former best friend, Holly Willoughby as well as his other ITV colleagues and former lover.
