A Dublin woman has been dubbed the ‘Angel Of The Ilac’ after saving the life of a six-week-old baby in a Dublin shopping centre.

Nikita Hutch told Newstalk this week that she was in the car park of the Ilac Centre when she came across a young baby who was in difficulty and had stopped breathing.

Having trained as a childcare worker, Hutch immediately began CPR on the infant and was relieved when her resuscitation attempts were successful.

“I don’t even know what was going through my mind. I just tried everything I could, CPR, recovery position, opened his airways, tilted his head back, turned him on his belly, turned him on his back. He wasn’t responding.

“I put him on his back on the ground and tilted his head back and blew into his mouth. He was responding to that. So we put him into the recovery position and he started to cry. He was blue and purple and his lips were blue.”

The child was later taken to Temple Street Children’s Hospital and Nikita says she would “love to meet the baby again”.
